Filozofski
café / Filozofsko Vino Osijek: europske avenije 6
2015 in SpringWORK IN PROGRESS / under construction
Zoran Kojcic Filozofski cafe Looking forward to have you with us, Mike!
We could
discuss both EUtopia and eUtopia, it´s a great topic!
The text
“Utopia” by Thomas More was written 1516 in the English of that time, in Latin.
The title is a greek word written in “Latinica”: `Topos´ means place, here a place on Earth,
and `ou´ is negating. Together we get: utopia => there
is not (yet) such a place “in the world”…
By the
by: if people of English tongue speak
the word ( I mean utopia ) the first syllable sounds
You
YU
U
JU
EU
(showing
that on a “Schriftrolle”!)
Like in
“you & me”, Yugoslavija, u-topia/”jutópia”, Jugo (the wind from the South),
and the Greek
Εὐρώπη
Εὐρώπη
where the first syllable stands
for “good”, making EUtopia the “good place” (on Earth).
Wiki: “In English, Utopia is pronounced exactly as Eutopia (the latter
word, in Greek Εὐτοπία … contains the prefix εὐ- [eu-], "good", with
which the οὐ of Utopia has come to be confused in the French and English
pronunciation). This is something that More himself addresses in an addendum to
his book: Wherfore not Utopie, but rather rightely my name is Eutopie, a place
of felicitie.”
One interpretation holds that this suggests that while Utopia might be
some sort of perfected society”, - it is
ultimately unreachable?
When I had sent a list
of possible topics to Zoran Kojcic in November he picked todays topic for the
Osijek Filozofski Café / filozofsko vino - and as we played with the word he mailed: We could
discuss both EUtopia and eUtopia, it´s a great topic!
Let´s do so in the discussion. In my
initial input I will start with a few quotes. Do not be afraid. I will not
switch to Latin now.
English version?
Croatian version?

But now let us now find the speakers in our PhiloScene!
( BEAM it ! )
1 “ I see the sea “ says – Mike
Who is in role 2 ? That is a Young Woman ...2 “I see myself surfing the sea on a funny surfboard, my hand crabbing a horne” says –
And we need another persona:
3 “I fancy myself as that bull, swimming” says –
More characters?
4 “I take the role of a spectator of the
scene” says – Zoran
1 speaks to 2: >> Erob, you are
looking good travelling to Europe!”
>EROB< is said to be the original, phoenician maiden name of that Ionian young woman
>EROB< is said to be the original, phoenician maiden name of that Ionian young woman
And 2 answers, addressing the audience: >> …
Whatever she may have said the spectator (4) will ask (when the young
lady Europe has finished) : >> Let´s make this philodrama interactive!
What else could she have thought of? Please, step into her shoes and tell
us!” 4 finds a new speaker (2n) who says:
>>

Whatever s/he may have said the spectator (4) will ask (when the young
lady Europe has finished) : >> Let´s make this philodrama interactive!
What else could she have thought of? Please, step into her shoes and tell us!”
