Hrvatsko društvo za filozofsku praksu poziva vas na travanjski filozofski cafe u galeriji Magis u Osijeku (Europske avenije 6), koji će se održati u utorak, 7. travnja 2015. godine s početkom u 18 sati.

Ovoga puta, poseban gost filozofskog cafea bit će Mike Roth, sa Sveučilišta u Konstanzu, koji će moderirati filozofski cafe na temu EUtopia. Kroz ovu raspravu propitat ćemo osnovne teze o Utopiji Thomasa Morea te vezu između savršenog društvenog uređenja i zajednice u kojoj živimo, Europske Unije. Naglašavamo da će se filozofski cafe održati na engleskom jeziku, kako bismo olakšali komunikaciju našem gostu, ali da savršen engleski nije preduvjet sudjelovanju.

Isto tako, da biste sudjelovali na filozofskom cafeu, ne morate biti formalno obrazovani u filozofiji; sudionici filozofskog cafea uvijek izražavaju vlastito mišljenje i stavove o zadanoj ili izabranoj temi. Ovoga puta imamo zadanu temu za koju smatramo da je relevantna za društvo u kojem živimo te svevremena i predmet ispitivanja svake civilizacije, počevši od antičke Grčke, preko renesanse, sve do danas.

Mike Roth radi kao profesor na Sveučilištu u Konstanzu. Godinama se bavi filozofskom praksom, aktivan je u švicarskom društvu za filozofsku praksu te vodi društvo SinnPraxis. Voditelj je filozofskih putovanja, filozofskih cafea, bavi se biblioterapijom, filozofskim dijalogom i filozofijom za djecu. Kao gost osječkog filozofskog cafea, osječkoj će publici predstaviti svoju metodu na primjeru teme EUtopia.

We could discuss both EUtopia and eUtopia, it´s a great topic!

The text “Utopia” by Thomas More was written 1516 in the English of that time, in Latin. The title is a greek word written in “Latinica”:  `Topos´ means place, here a place on Earth, and `ou´  is  negating. Together we get: utopia => there is not (yet) such a place “in the world”…

By the by:  if people of English tongue speak the word ( I mean utopia ) the first syllable sounds

Like in “you & me”, Yugoslavija, u-topia/”jutópia”, Jugo (the wind from the South), and the Greek

Εὐρώπη     

where the first syllable stands for “good”, making EUtopia the “good place” (on Earth).

Wiki: “In English, Utopia is pronounced exactly as Eutopia (the latter word, in Greek Εὐτοπία … contains the prefix εὐ- [eu-], "good", with which the οὐ of Utopia has come to be confused in the French and English pronunciation).This is something that More himself addresses in an addendum to his book: Wherfore not Utopie, but rather rightely my name is Eutopie, a place of felicitie.”

One interpretation holds that this suggests that while Utopia might be some sort of perfected society”,  - it is ultimately unreachable?

When I had sent a list of possible topics to Zoran Kojcic in November he picked todays topic for the Osijek Filozofski Café / filozofsko vino - and as we played with the word he mailed:  We could discuss both EUtopia and eUtopia, it´s a great topic!

Let´s do so in the discussion. In my initial input I will start with a few quotes. Do not be afraid. I will not switch to Latin now.
